NEW RMS WINLINK SYST
As you will see, the new Paclink MP is by far the easiest to load and configure that we have had to date. The Developers are to be commended for the work they have put in during development. The Old Post Office is no longer necessary and should be deleted as it halts the program if left in place.
Any TNC can be used with either AGWPE or in Host mode. The Sound Card Modem works very well with Paclink MP. You have your choice how you want to run it. I recommend the Rascal interface, but any sound card interface will work.
If you take my advice, you will setup the Soundcard software (AGWPE) first. Then connect the Rascal to it and check to see if it is keying the PTT circuit. Then listen to the soundcard output to see if it sounds like 1200 B packet. Use a Terminal program such as the sv2agw Terminal program which is free.
Next, you should try to get the Soundcard program to connect using your packet radio and antenna. The receive audio should be set low at about 5-6 on the Soundcard output. The difficult thing is to set the Transmit audio. If you have a Service Monitor or simple deviation meter, that make it simple. Alternatively, one can set the level using an oscilloscope to set the P-P voltage according to the Radios manual under recommended packet level for 1200 B.
Once you have it connecting you can work packet manually using the Terminal Program . Do not proceed with Paclink MP until you can connect using only the soundcard, radio and terminal program.
If you are having trouble getting the Packet Engine program setup and working, go to the Ralph Milnes site at: www.kc2rlm.info above. It is a wonderful asset when using the Soundcard program. If you read it carefully, I am sure you will find the answer to your problem.
When you are ready for the Paclink MP program, download it from the Yahoo.com site under Groups, Paclink MP. The procedure is outlined in the "Help File." It is simplicity itself! This program runs Pactor, Packet, and Telnet all in one. It has Host files for almost all TNC's, if you want to run a TNC.
You must be connected to the Internet when you setup your packet account with Winlink 2000. You will also have to setup Outlook Express or your favorite E-mail program after you setup your account because the program does NOT record the password automatically!
P.S. Bud says always use a password which combines your call letters with a "1" immediately after your suffix. Don't worry, THIS password is not a true password for security, but serves only as an identifier. No one will steal your Mail due to this!
